Relationships

It is our family of Harley-Davidson® and Buell® dealers who ultimately make these dreams come true for our customers. Our dealers are the keepers of the culture and the heart of a unique customer base of men, women and families with one common love that brings them together… Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. The relationship that customers develop with their dealers and the Harley-Davidson Motor Company is what separates the Harley-Davidson experience from everything else.

Harley-Davidson does not charge a franchise fee for obtaining a Harley-Davidson dealership. Our dealers are independent business people. Each dealer operates under a contract with Harley-Davidson Motor Company to retail certain Harley-Davidson® motorcycles, Finance and Insurance, Parts & Accessories, and MotorClothes® apparel and collectibles.

Financial Requirements

Harley-Davidson Motor Company has established minimum fi nancial requirements. These financial requirements help ensure the strength of the candidate and continued growth of the business. The minimum requirements are $2 million net worth and $1 million unencumbered funds (liquid assets). This could vary based on the size and location of the dealership. Additionally, Harley-Davidson has investment requirements and debt-to-equity criteria that will have an impact on the final investment when purchasing an existing dealership.

Dealer Ownership Requirements

In addition to our minimum financial, personal and business qualifications, we require a majority owner to commit to the full time, on-site management of the dealership operation. The majority owner must have complete control of the dealership and contribute the majority of the equity in the acquisition of any dealership.

Dealer Application

All potential investors must complete a Prospective Dealer Application in its entirety which can be found on www.Harley-Davidson.com. As stated above, Harley-Davidson Motor Company requires one individual to be the on-site majority owner. If all of the conditions are met, you will be entered into our prospective dealer database. The Company maintains this database for both current and future dealership opportunities.
