NAMAD'S MISSION

The National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers (NAMAD) is a more than 650-member, 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization headquartered in the Washington, D.C. area. Founded in 1980, NAMAD is committed to increasing opportunities for ethnic minorities in all aspects of the automotive industry. The automotive industry generates revenue of more than $1,000,000,000,000 (One Trillion Dollars). NAMAD seeks to ensure the presence of a meaningful, representative number of minority entrepreneurs and employees in the retail sales, supplier and service sectors, and the manufacturing ranks.

One of the methods NAMAD uses to accomplish this goal is public education. In 1998 alone, ethnic minorities spent in excess of $60 billion on new cars, used cars and related purchases. There are currently approximately 72,841,000 ethnic minorities in the United States. This segment of the population is predicted to be the fastest growing in the nation. This is a market that the automobile industry can ill afford to ignore. Good business practices
will dictate a change in the demographic base of participants in the automobile industry.

NAMAD has committed to working closely with domestic and international nameplate manufacturers to achieve win/win, sound business arrangements designed to create reciprocal trading partnerships. Over the past year, astute automobile manufacturers have joined forces with NAMAD to work together to advance the nation’s efforts to promote equal opportunity and access for all Americans. These partnerships have uncovered new markets, new ideas, new talent and new capital – all to the benefit of automobile manufacturers, entrepreneurs and consumers.

NAMAD members are revered in their communities as social and political leaders. In addition, NAMAD members make strong contributions to the local and national economy. During 1998, the top 100 African-American car dealers alone employed 10,744 people and had sales of $6,286,993,000.
